Dipotama: Where Two Water Streams Meet on Mount Parnassos
Activity Description
From the traditional settlement of Tithorea, formerly known as Velitsa, begins one of the most beautiful and authentic hiking routes on the eastern slopes of Mount Parnassos.
We leave our vehicles at the village square, dominated by a magnificent centuries-old plane tree, and walk uphill through the village. At its upper end, the trail begins, leading us deeper into the impressive Kachalas Gorge.
As we move forward, the dramatic landscape serves as a reminder of the mountain’s geological past, when the melting of glaciers carved out this deep gorge.
As we emerge from the spectacular gorge, we soon reach the picturesque chapel of Saint John, a breathtaking viewpoint where the imposing peaks of Parnassos rise before us.
From this point onwards, the route takes on an even more distinctly mountainous character. We encounter the small water channel that carries water from the river to the village and, following its course, make our way through fir trees, with uninterrupted views over the gorge.
The trail leads us pleasantly towards our destination: Dipotama.
Here, two streams meet amid an impressive geological setting of rocks and trees, creating an untouched landscape filled with coolness and the sounds of nature. Small natural pools complete this idyllic setting.
Having taken in the beauty and tranquillity of the landscape, we begin our return journey, following the same trail back to the village.
