Explore the Hidden Catholic Villages of Tinos: A Scenic Downhill Hike from Tarambados to Komi
Activity Description
Experience the best of Tinos hiking trails on this easy downhill route through the lush countryside and historic Catholic villages of the island’s hinterland. Ideal for nature lovers, families, and cultural explorers, this scenic hike introduces you to traditional villages, iconic dovecotes, cobbled paths, and unique local museums.
We begin our journey from Tarambados, famous for the Valley of the Dovecotes, home to some of the most ornate and best-preserved dovecotes in Tinos. After admiring them, we head toward Kampos, a vibrant village known for its annual Honey Festival and the Kostas Tsoklis Museum of Contemporary Art, which we can visit during summer.
The trail continues through a stunning cobbled path surrounded by lush greenery, leading to the village of Loutra. Here, we stop to explore the Ursuline Monastery Museum, a unique cultural site founded in 1862, once a prestigious girls' school admired across Europe. The museum is open seasonally during summer.
Our downhill hike proceeds toward Perastra, a quiet green village with medieval ruins and some of the oldest dovecotes on the island, set beside a river and a charming arched stone bridge.
We finish in Komi, one of the largest and most agriculturally active villages of Tinos, located near the fertile Livadi Plain. Komi hosts the famous Artichoke Festival each spring, celebrating the village’s strong farming traditions.
